Local Historical Documents

A number of websites provide census, birth, marriage and death information in the United Kingdom. www.mobberley-history.uk has collected information about many aspects of Mobberley’s history. There are a few books, all out of print but in the possession of many village residents, and also at libraries, including that of the Family History Society of Cheshire, also housed in the Parish Council Rajar Building on Town Lane.

· ‘Mobberley Records’ by Stephen Murray 1909

· ‘Mobberley Reflections’ – a photographic record published by the Mobberley Preservation Society in 1981

· ‘A History of Mobberley Village’ published in 1952 by the Women’s Institute

· ‘Lindow and the Bog Warriors’ by Matthew Hyde and Christine Pemberton published in 2002

Mobberley Village Society (which succeeded Mobberley Village Preservation Society) acquired over its forty-year history a number of physical artefacts, written, documentary and photographic records. The society was wound up in 2012 and its archive material has been transferred to the safekeeping of the Parish Council and is held at the offices on Town Lane.

Open public access to these archive materials isn’t possible for a number of reasons but if you email: clerk@mobberleyparishcouncil.co.uk

with what you are interested in this will be forwarded on so that you request can be dealt with and responded to.
